The whole idea of FIG came to our founder when she was studying abroad in Australia, she happened to glance at the back of a shampoo bottle and tried to read the ingredients that go into making it, not to anyone’s surprise its actually quite complicated and to be honest pretty scary.
Some of these ingredients are linked with causing cancer and hormonal imbalances in the body, chemicals such as SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate/Sodium Laureth Sulfate) is a good example most commonly used as a surfactant but also used as a pesticide and it is known to be cancer causing. If you can’t eat it, then why are we putting it on our bodies. The skin is the largest organ we have and everything we put on it gets absorbed and in turn does some serious damage over time.
The inception of The FIG was born out of the necessity to provide awareness, safer products that don’t compromise on quality and an eco-friendly alternative to the public. All the bath products we use have a resulting effect on the eco-system through surface run off, these chemicals get drained and led back to the sea. This will effect the marine life and again leads back to us through fishing and consumption of seafood.
This is not an overnight process and it’s not gonna severely affect all of us, but over time and with increase of such products it will lead to some serious damage.
At The FIG our mission is to provide clean and chemical-free soaps and other bath and body related products which are not only safe to use but which is environmentally friendly and it doesn’t compromise on smell, lather or anything else that a ‘traditional’ soap offers.
Our goal is to start a revolution and increase public awareness of what’s going on and what huge corporations are doing just to make their bottom line look good.
In the future we hope to expand to all sorts of bath and body products as well as starting a lifestyle clothing brand that will work hand in hand with organizations that are hellbent into making the world a better place for all of us to live in.
